Pittsburgh tech firms attracted $1.3B in 5 years

In the last five years, Pittsburgh-area tech companies have garnered $1.3 billion in investment from venture capital firms, angels, economic development groups, strategic investors and others, according to a report to be released this week by Innovation Works and Ernst & Young LLP.

While the rest of the nation generally saw declines in the number of venture capital dollars and deals last year, Pittsburgh’s investment scene roared to life with a 54% increase in the number of financing deals while investment totals also outpaced the previous year.

McGinnis Venture Competition at Carnegie Mellon University is back

Under a new format, the McGinnis Venture Competition is open only to CMU students, both graduate and undergraduate, at the Pittsburgh campus, the West Coast campus and some of the international campuses. The final round of the competition is scheduled March 22.
