Jim is the Director of AlphaLab, Innovation Works’ accelerator program that provides investment, mentorship and connections for Internet-based startups as part of an intensive 20-week program to help them make rapid progress through the early stages of product and customer development. Jim oversees AlphaLab’s strategic direction and guides companies by leveraging his experience and network gained from working closely with over seventy companies in the Innovation Works and AlphaLab portfolios and from his software marketing and product management experience in Silicon Valley.
Jim also works closely with many of Innovation Works' software and Internet-related companies, including Deep Local, Etcetera Edutainment, Mogime, No Wait, Shoefitr, ShowClix, The Resumator, WhereverTV, and Wombat Security. Jim previously led investments and served as a board observer for BeatBox (acquired by Mercury Interactive, now part of Hewlett-Packard), BitArmor (acquired by Trustwave), Carnegie Speech, HyperActive Technologies, Immunetrics, Impact Games (acquired by Hybrid Learning), Landslide, mSpoke (acquired by Linkedin), Penthera Partners, and Smash.
Previously, Jim built and managed software businesses at Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Agile Software (acquired by Oracle), and Instill Corporation (acquired by iTradeNetwork Inc). As a management consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton, Jim advised executive management of Fortune 500 companies on marketing, strategic planning, and organizational issues. Jim holds a BA and MA in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
