Tim Fogarty
Vice President, Energy Programs
Tim Fogarty is currently the Vice President of Energy Programs at Innovation Works where he manages a pool of over $10M in IW investment activity related to energy. With those funds, he has shepherded over 12 new investments over the last year. In addition, Mr. Fogarty co-founded the Energy Alliance and is Chairman of the Company Innovation Working Group.
Prior to Innovation Works, Mr. Fogarty was a managing director of MHI Energy Partners, a venture capital firm focused on energy technology seed stage investing in North America. While at MHI, Mr. Fogarty was involved in deal flow generation and investment decision making, and held management positions at portfolio companies during their nascent stage.
In 2004, Tim founded and was co-CEO of Phoenix Coal Corporation, a coal technology & mining company based in Madisonville, KY and MHI Portfolio Company. Phoenix completed an IPO in July 2008, raising over $100M and garnering a market capitalization of over $260 million.
Tim also served as Vice President of Finance for INI Power Systems, a fuel cell company in Cary, North Carolina developing portable power solutions for military applications. Previously, Tim was the Power Technologies Equity Research Analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners, LLC in New York City. As the Senior Analyst covering the sector, he was responsible for the launch of the firm's Power Technology coverage, publishing over 40 reports, including an industry White Paper. Tim built financial models, performed market research and assessed private equity and banking opportunities. He has also served in similar positions covering the e*Commerce and retail sectors for ING Barings (NYC) and Furman Selz (NYC), respectively.
Prior to entering the financial sector, Tim was a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as an Infantry Platoon Commander and later supervised training for a Battalion of over 1,000 Marines. Mr. Fogarty was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for superior performance of his duties. Mr. Fogarty received an A.B. from Harvard University.
