Meet Our Portfolio Companies

Innovation Works’ portfolio companies reflect the deep technology strengths of this region: computer science, internet software, gaming technology, nanotechnology, life sciences, robotics and clean energy. Every year, we work with hundreds of high-potential companies in these areas to help them carve a path to commercialization.  We also make direct investments in many of them. 

In 2008, we invested $5.4M in 84 new start-ups in our portfolio. Investors view our due diligence and investments as a sign of credibility for the start-up. Last year, IW portfolio companies raised $149M in follow-on funding, representing nearly two-thirds of the Pittsburgh region’s VC investments.
