Chief Investment Officer
Gary Glausser is the Chief Investment Officer of Innovation Works (IW). Gary oversees IW’s investment fund(s), chairs its Investment Committee and helps IW source, evaluate and invest in the region’s most promising startups.
Gary has over 25 years of venture capital, private equity, financial management, investing, lending, and public accounting experience. He most recently managed the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s $7billion Alternative Investment portfolio comprised of investments in top-tier global private equity and venture capital funds. He is also a partner in two of Birchmere Venture’s fully invested venture capital funds. He began his career at Price Waterhouse providing audit and consulting services to companies in a variety of industries. During this time, he was the creator, editor, and major contributing author of “Buying and Selling a Business,” a Price Waterhouse guide for executives of emerging, growing, and middle-market companies. At Westinghouse Credit Gary held various positions in lending, investing, and controller capacities. He was a deal maker leading investments in excess of $200 million in a number of later-stage company financings. Later he became VP/Controller of various investment portfolios totaling in excess of $5 billion.
Gary is past president of the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, founder of the Three Rivers Venture Fair, and a current or past board member of the Association for Corporate Growth (Pittsburgh chapter), Financial Executives International (Pittsburgh chapter), CCAC Foundation and St. Clair Hospital, Sculptor Development and the Regional Development Funding Corporation. In addition, Gary has been a board member of several early stage technology and life sciences companies and is currently on the board of Alung Technologies, Inc. Gary is also a frequent guest lecturer at several local universities. Gary holds a B.S. from John Carroll University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
