SOFTWARE
AlphaLab Software is one of the earliest and most prestigious software startup accelerators in the nation. Established in 2008 as one of the first accelerators in the U.S., it has grown into one of the premier programs that make Pittsburgh a technology hub.

GEAR
AlphaLab Gear helps hardware startups refine their products, strengthen their supply chain, and go to market. Established in 2013 as one of the first three dedicated hardware accelerators in the world, this track addresses the 75% of the economy devoted to physical goods.

HEALTH
AlphaLab Health gives life sciences startups a real-world proving ground for their products. Established in 2020 as a collaboration with Allegheny Health Network, AlphaLab Health equips startups with capital, clinical mentorship, private office space, and biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) laboratories. A sub-track for Neuroscience provides highly specialized opportunities for medical founders.

ROBOTICS
The Robotics Factory Accelerate program capitalizes on Pittsburgh’s unparalleled strength in building robotics and automation companies. The program gives founders the tools they need to go from concept to commercialization by providing guidance on business and building prototypes and offering access to manufacturing resources, including a production-grade prototype scale shop.

Eligibility
AlphaLab seeks ambitious, driven, and coachable founders who are ready to take their startups to the next level. We support startups at the early stages of development and those with a unique vision for growth in sectors like software, robotics, life sciences, and hardware. Founders who join AlphaLab should be ready to fully commit to their startup’s success, engage deeply with our mentorship, and work within Pittsburgh’s vibrant tech community
To apply for AlphaLab, startups must meet the following baseline requirements:
- U.S. incorporation: Applicants must have a legally incorporated entity in the United States (e.g., LLC, C-Corp, or S-Corp).
- Work authorization in the U.S.: The founders must have the necessary legal authorization to work within the United States.
- Commitment to presence in Pittsburgh: Founders should be prepared to spend substantial time in Pittsburgh, engaging with the local ecosystem and leveraging AlphaLab’s connections with the city’s industry leaders, universities, and investors.
- Ownership of IP or exclusive license: Applicants must own or hold an exclusive license for any intellectual property critical to their business, ensuring that they can legally develop and commercialize their technology or product.
- In-person participation: AlphaLab’s accelerator programming requires a significant in-person presence to maximize the benefit of face-to-face mentorship, networking, and collaboration within the Pittsburgh ecosystem.
- Time commitment: Founders should be prepared to devote their full time and attention to the accelerator programming (six to eight hours per week) and their startup’s development. This includes participation in workshops, meetings, and events.
